Delivering Project Management Courses in Partnership With ICE Training

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), founded in 1818, is a prestigious professional association for civil engineers and charitable body in the United Kingdom. With over 92,000 members worldwide, of whom three-quarters are located in the UK, ICE serves as a centre of engineering excellence, ensuring the safety, reliability, and quality of infrastructure projects globally.

ICE Training is a branch of the ICE offering engineering and construction training courses that satisfy knowledge requirements across the breadth of infrastructure, as well as training on skills such as business and project management.

The partnership between ICE Training and 20/20 Project Management Training originated from a competitive tender issued by ICE Training, which 20/20 successfully secured in 2016. Recognising the growing need for project management training among its members, ICE Training sought a trusted partner to deliver accredited project management training courses. 20/20’s well-established presence in the project management training industry aligned well with ICE Training’s commitment to excellence and as a result, the partnership leverages 20/20’s expertise in project management with ICE Training’s esteemed reputation within the engineering community. From the very beginning, there has been a great synergy between the two organisations’ clients, with 20/20 working with several clients that are existing members of the ICE, including Balfour Beatty, Costain, Murphy's and Sir Robert McAlpine.

Courses delivered by 20/20 for ICE Training

The partnership involves a range of courses being delivered, including the Association for Project Management (APM) Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), and Bitesize Modules. Discussions are also underway to expand offerings to include 20/20’s APM Project Management Risk Level 1 qualification to cater to even more training needs.

Whilst the majority of courses cater to individual ICE members, the partnership also extends to delivering onsite and in-house solutions for corporate clients, including bespoke project management programmes for those who want to relate any training back to their organisations own processes.

How the partnership has progressed and key highlights

From the very start of the relationship, 20/20 and ICE Training have worked in a collaborative and transparent way, always prioritising the learners needs first. Initially focused on providing eLearning solutions, the partnership has expanded to include in-person training across the UK and internationally.

Tom Vincent, CEO at 20/20, has actively engaged with ICE Training’s staff through presentations and client meetings, contributing valuable insights into project management’s impact on the construction industry. Notably, a highlight of the partnership was supporting the Dubai Road and Traffic Authority (RTA) with classroom training for their graduate programme.

Through this partnership, more than 1000 learners have received training, marking a significant achievement in strengthening project management competencies within the engineering community.

Future Plans

Looking forward, the partnership’s overarching goal remains to address the evolving needs of ICE members and clients. Regular discussions between 20/20 and ICE Training will continue to identify opportunities for value-added solutions in project management training. Additionally, the partnership fosters reciprocal support, with ICE Training assisting 20/20 clients in specialised areas such as NEC contracts.

Natalie Collins, Head of Operations at ICE Training, commented “It’s been a pleasure working with 20/20 over the years, the relationship is an easy fit for both parties and has blossomed very naturally. We’re looking forward to continuing to grow and develop this going forwards, combining our training expertise to provide great learning opportunities to ICE members and 20/20 clients alike”.

In conclusion, the partnership between ICE Training and 20/20 Project Management Training exemplifies a successful collaboration aimed at promoting professional development and ensuring excellence in project management within the engineering community. As both organisations continue to evolve, the partnership remains poised to deliver innovative solutions and support the advancement of project management practices globally.
