About this course
This course prepares you to take either the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® or the Project Management Professional (PMP)®. The difference between someones eligibility for these qualifications is experience. If you have a high school Diploma or equivalent and 15 hours of contact time with a PMI education provider then you are eligible for the CAPM®. If you have at least 3 years experience in managing or directing project activities as well as 35 contact hours of PM education and a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent then you are eligible for the PMP.
The CAPM is aimed at project team members and is an academic qualification based on the PMI Body of Knowledge (PMBoK)®.
The PMP is aimed at Project Managers and is a mixture of academic application of the PMI methodology and real-life experience.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for project managers, project team members, other managers and all those who would benefit from exposure to best practice in project management. The PMI is the predominant standard outside of the UK and Europe. it is strong in the Oil & Gas sector because of the US influence.
What are the benefits?
If you are an HR or Learning and Development executive working in an organisation that delivers projects investing in appropriate training for your project personnel brings a number of positive benefits. Retention of staff is often an issue and we have found that training and developing staff goes a long way to increasing these. When staff feel valued, feel empowered to achieve and feel that there is a realistic progression path in their organisation, they will display greater loyalty and stay longer with that organisation.
Having enough qualified Project Managers to satisfy contract and scope requirements is a recognised challenge faced by personnel departments. Clearly, putting your Project Managers through either PMI or APM qualification helps with this.
For all people involved in projects, including but not limited to Project Managers, having a greater knowledge base, having a greater understanding of context and having the ability to appropriately apply knowledge to the workplace delivers personal and career benefits that are way above the price of a course. In addition, an organisation with project personnel able to do these things derive exponential business benefits.
