The Project Management Institute (PMI)® is the world’s largest not-for-profit professional membership association for the project, program and portfolio management profession. Founded in 1969, PMI delivers value for more than 2.9 million professionals working in nearly every country in the world through global advocacy, collaboration, education and research. PMI advances careers, improves organizational success and further matures the profession of project management through its globally recognized standards, certifications, resources, tools, academic research, publications, professional development courses, and networking opportunities.
The PMI is the U.S. standard for Project Management. The terminology and methodology used is different in part to the APM both demonstrate best practice.
In the UK, we run two courses aligned to the PMI Body of Knowledge (PMBok)®:
- Introduction to Project Management – aligned to PMI key processes
- Project Management Professional (PMP)® (suitable for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® as well)
Introduction to Project Management
This course is designed to clarify and explain the basic aspects of a project and project management in order for participants to gain confidence in their project environment. It will help individuals to recognise the key aspects of a project and the importance of their role within it. The course is also intended for those working in supporting functional departments whose work can impact on project success.
This course provides an introduction to the Project Management Institute® (PMI)’s Body of Knowledge and covers all fundamental aspects of project management using the PMI’s methodology.
Project Management Professional (PMP)®
This course is designed for project managers, project team members, other managers and all those who would benefit from exposure to best practice in project management. The course aims to provide a forum for Project Managers and members of project teams to gain exposure to Best Practice in Project Management in its broadest sense. Using the professional standard of the PMI as the basis for the program, the topics are addressed by demonstrating best practices and applying these to a simulation project.
At the end of this course, depending upon the practical experience of the candidate, they will be able to go forward for either the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® or the Project Management Professional (PMP)®.
