Proper preparation prevents losing out in Hinkley Point C contract competition

Hinkley Point C

The French utilities giant EDF gets ever closer to finalising the heavily anticipated start of the build of the new Hinkley Point C power station.

You will, most likely, have heard of this new project which is looking to inject upwards of £2bn into the local region over the life of the build (with more over the entire life of the plant) and has an expected project price tag of an estimated £18bn (indeed, some estimates put it at £32bn, making it the most expensive object on earth).

Though the super-project is yet to be given the official thumbs up, the site at Hinkley Point is undergoing the transformation needed to prepare the site. It is estimated that the project will provide around 25,000 jobs in its build phase and will leave behind permanent employment for an estimated 900 people. The local economy and the wider business community will benefit from this.

With the tier 1 contracts increasingly fulfilled, the fight begins for the tier 2 and 3 companies who are looking to secure work packages within the Somerset project. Competition is rife and rightly so. This infrastructural engineering behemoth will occupy years of work for individual firms and contains hundreds of interwoven smaller projects.

20|20 Business Insight have launched a series of their Nuclear-specific APMP project management courses in nearby Bridgwater and Bristol and are the only provider to do so at present. Gaining the APMP qualification can be a differentiator for individual project managers looking for work. It is also helpful for those tier 2 and 3 companies looking to set themselves apart from the competition when bidding for contracts.

20|20 deliver training to individuals and companies who aim to have effective qualified workforces who understand the importance of their participation in projects and delivering them on time and on budget.

20|20 Business Insight are a pledged member to the Hinkley Point Training Agency (HPTA).
